Dichroic Glass is the result of placing a multi-layered coating on glass using a highly technical vacuum deposition process. The glass Sariola uses can have 50-60 layers of these materials, yet the thickness of the total coating is approximately 2 millionths of an inch. Dichroic Glass was originally created for the aerospace industry by NASA, for the use in satellite mirrors.

Multiple ultrathin layers of different metaloxides (Gold, silver, titanum, chromium, aluminium, zirconium, magnesium and silicon) are applied to the surface of the glass in a vacuum chamber.

The main characteristics of Dichroic Glass is that is has a transmitted color and a completely different reflective color. These two colors can be seen by shifting your angle of view.
